Audi picks Georgia for its first US plant, planning about $4bn and 4,500 jobs

The Volkswagen Group brand plans an SUV plant for North America with capacity of up to 200,000 vehicles a year. It says US production would cut its exposure to trade and currency risks.

Audi plans to build its first production site in the United States at the Middle Georgia Megasite, investing around $4 billion and creating approximately 4,500 jobs, the carmaker said in a media release dated 25 October 2026. Georgia Governor Brian P. Kemp's office announced the project on 24 October. Audi said the plant would build premium SUVs designed for buyers in North America, with an annual capacity of up to 200,000 vehicles.

Source: AUDI AG media release; Office of the Governor of Georgia, Plans published 24-25 October 2026. The two releases describe the schedule differently; neither gives a start month.

Audi described the US as the world's second-largest premium market and said Germany and Europe "will remain the industrial backbone of Audi". The governor's office said Audi chose Georgia for speed to market, its workforce, access to consumer markets and an established automotive supply chain.

“We have much greater ambitions for Audi in America. The United States is one of the world's most important premium markets, and we have not yet realized our full potential.”

The governor's office says the megasite, in Peach County, was developed by the Development Authority of Peach County with the Mid-Georgia Gateway Joint Development Authority, a partnership of Houston, Macon-Bibb and Peach counties. It says Georgia Quick Start will work with Audi on training and design a training facility for the company. Neither release gives the value of any state or local incentives, the models to be built or a start month for production.
