  • EBITA, adjusted for special items47 EUR m +55% from EUR 30m in Q3 2025

The EBITA margin at Tomra Systems, the Oslo-listed maker of reverse vending machines and sensor-based sorting equipment, widened to 12.9% in the third quarter of 2026 from 10.0% a year earlier, even though group gross margin narrowed, a decline Tomra traces to Collection. Tomra had no special items in either quarter, so its adjusted and reported EBITA match in both periods. Operating expenses rose 5% to EUR 110m; Tomra's 23 October 2026 release attributes the increase to the ramp-up in the UK and Poland, FX, inflation and the addition of Clynk, a US provider of bag-drop collection and processing of beverage containers whose assets Tomra acquired on 30 September 2025.

New markets added EUR 24m against EUR 17m a year earlier, on deliveries to the new deposit markets Poland, Singapore and Romania. Business mix effects and high equipment sales in existing and new markets pulled the division's gross margin down to 40.8% from 42.3%, according to the release, while its EBITA rose to EUR 36m from EUR 29m.

Recycling's order intake rose to EUR 73m from EUR 42m a year earlier, and EUR 26m of it came from what Tomra called exceptionally large Mining orders. Divisional revenue rose in almost all regions, and the report credits higher volume and COGS savings for the wider gross margin. In Food, revenue grew across several categories including citrus, blueberries and vegetables, offsetting the downcycle in potatoes, according to the release. The Food backlog fell 20% year on year, and Tomra puts the dip in Food order intake, to EUR 75m from EUR 77m, down to investment timing.

“In Recycling, profitability continues to move in the right direction as our operational improvements and cost actions take effect, although overall market sentiment remains broadly unchanged. … The EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) is now applicable, strengthening the long-term regulatory backdrop for recycling.”

Tomra expects Collection total revenues of EUR 410-430m in the second half of 2026, with a gross margin of around 40% for the full year. For the full year 2026 it expects Recycling revenues of EUR 205-215m and Food revenues of EUR 347-357m, and it plans total capital expenditures of approximately EUR 90-100m. About 15% of group revenues come from sales in the United States which may be subject to tariffs, the report notes.
