Growth in Asia excluding China, which brought in $553m against China's $528m, came mainly from India, where organic sales rose 29% on strong LVP growth and more safety content per vehicle. In China, LVP fell 6.9%, yet Autoliv's sales to domestic carmakers rose organically by around 21% while sales to global carmakers fell by around 29%. EMEA was the weak region: organic sales fell 2.9% while regional LVP rose 0.8%, an underperformance of 3.7 percentage points.
“Our sales in India grew by nearly 30% and our sales to Chinese OEMs grew by more than 20%.”
The company now expects a full-year adjusted operating margin of around 10.5%, the low end of its earlier range of around 10.5-11%. Bratt cited higher costs for raw materials and logistics, flooding in Thailand and weaker customer call-off accuracy. Raw materials had a gross impact of around $42m in the quarter, and tariffs a net impact of around $6m after customer compensation. The company kept guidance for around 0% organic sales growth and around $1.2bn of operating cash flow. It bought back about 1.23 million shares for $150m and paid $63m in dividends in the quarter.
